The History of ARC Fastener Supply

The History of ARC began in 1977 when Robert C. Myers opened the company in a 900 square foot facility, located in Duarte California. ARC was started with only three employees, Robert Myers, Jeannine Myers (Robert’s Wife) and Joseph Myers (Robert’s Son). Joseph left the company, in 1978, to pursue a career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff Department. At this time, the company’s main customer base was the Aerospace industry, as well as commercial business, in which fasteners and other related products were sold. The company operated as a small family business between the years 1977 – 1989. When Joseph rejoined the family business in 1989, ARC had a total revenue of $180,000 a year and four employees.

After the passing of Robert and Jeannine, in 1990, Joseph, and his wife Erma were left to manage the business. With new Inventory Management Programs being put into place, ARC began to grow. Around this time the Aerospace Industry began to leave the state allowing ARC to focus on another industry, the Original Equipment Manufacturer, or the O.E.M. customer. In order to service the O.E.M. market efficiently, Joseph’s next step was to add fully automated packaging equipment to ARC’s resume. This equipment allowed ARC to package hardware kits, no just bulk hardware, in a more time-reducing manner. This was a service that could be utilized by ARC’s current customers and future customers alike. By packaging complete hardware kits, ARC could offer its customers a tremendous savings in labor costs by having ready to pack product at their disposal. Customers were able to take the labor utilized in hand packing kits themselves, and redistribute this labor to areas of more importance. This allowed the customer to concentrate on its core competency and building of its finished products.

To further build trust and confidence in the service and products that ARC was supplying to its customers, ARC implemented a world class Quality system. While building an infrastructure, ARC based its quality system on the ISO standards. This international standard has been adopted by thousands of companies and is recognized all over the world. ARC was certified ISO 9002: in July of 1998 by Underwriters Laboratories. In June of 2003 ARC updated its certification to ISO 9001:2000. ARC’s Quality Department utilizes state of the art tools to check and maintain the quality and performance of all of its products.
